October 21: The Feast of St. Gaspare del Bufalo, Founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood Who Celebrated Their 200th Anniversary in 2015
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The Papal Artifacts’ Collection is primarily dedicated to artifacts connected to the papacy. Individual popes, their biographies and multiple items belonging to them, including first and second class relics, make up the majority of this Collection. But that isn’t all it is.
Father Kunst has a deep devotion to the saints as can be readily seen in viewing the Saints & Blesseds section of this site. We invite you to visit Papal History/Saints & Blesseds to view the many canonized and beatified men and women who make up this section of the Collection.
Saint Gaspare del Bufalo is one of them.[/vc_column_text][minti_spacer][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row top_padding=”20″ bottom_padding=”10″][vc_column width=”1/2″][minti_image img=”22375″ lightbox=”1″ align=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][minti_image img=”24008″ lightbox=”1″ align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row top_padding=”20″ bottom_padding=”10″][vc_column][vc_column_text]The artifact featured here is a signed manuscript of Saint Gaspare del Bufalo, written in 1820 from Foligno, an ancient town of Italy in the province of Perugia, to Fabrica di Roma, a commune in the province of Viterbo.
Saint Gaspare was born in Rome on January 6, 1786 and died there in 1837. He was a priest and founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood. Pope Pius X beatified him in 1904, and Pope Pius XII canonized him in 1954.
The letter is in nearly perfect condition with minimal creasing on the single sheet of paper, which can be seen in the photo.
His biography, a relic of him at St. Charles Seminary, and his tomb is at Santa Maria in Trivio, Rome. 2017 is the 2002 anniversary of the Order.
Saint Gaspare, pray for us!
Missionaries of the Precious Blood
The Missionaries of the Precious Blood believe in the power of the blood of Jesus, shed for all, to change the world.
Pastors, teachers and preachers involved in many kinds of ministries, we encourage reconciliation in our homes, churches, workplaces, towns and cities. We want to help bring God’s healing grace to the world.
Our priests, brothers and lay associates seek out God’s people who are suffering from loneliness and despair, poverty and violence. Every person is a child of God. Every one.
Jesus Christ has redeemed all people with his Blood. It is our mission to help everyone draw closer to the God who saves us.
Happy Feast Day!
Saint Gaspare, pray for us!
October 21 is the feast of St. Gaspare del Bufalo, founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. St. Gaspare was small in stature but had a ferocious spirit, a brave heart and an all-consuming desire to serve God and renew the Church, through the Precious Blood of Jesus. May God bless us with some of St. Gaspare’s contagious commitment.
